http://www.locktonlevisham.co.uk/This is a group which operates from Levisham village and is concerned with research into the history of the village and its neighbour, Lockton.
Much research has been into the "Mystery of the Church in the Valley", a church that has been in a valley between the two villages since, possibly, the Viking invasion. The 'mystery' surrounds the question as to why a church should have been built in such a location: was it on a major trading post? Was there once a settlement there? If so, there are no traces of that settlement there now. What happened. Plague? No evidence for that.
